Drivers with colds as bad as drink drivers

Driving with a heavy cold is the same as downing four whiskies, according to new research by insurance firm “Young Marmalade”. Car safety experts were commissioned to look at the effects of common winter bugs such as flu and heavy colds, and found that concentration dropped dramatically when sufferers were tested scientifically. Young Marmalade teamed up with Halfords to fit drivers’ cars with telematics boxes to assess their driving. Reaction times increased and cornering became more erratic, and sudden braking increased as drivers showed less awareness of surrounding traffic. During the study, a participant who had a rating of 95% when healthy, dropped to 60% when suffering from a cold. At this level, an insurance company would expect the driver to be involved in a collision. So we need to be more careful when driving while unwell. What are your thoughts on this?
